    Clutch aagh!!!!!

Lots of threads from me about my first Defender clutch installation, now I think I may have a problem!
The clutch is a Borg and Beck, and went in really well-I think. The initial gear changes were good, then it started almost sticking, or grabbing slightlty. It was hard to pull off without a thud from the drive train. On saterday, went off road for the first time with the new cluch and got the whole thing quite hot with a bit of clutch riding in the sand. Suddenly each time I depressed the clutch there was a loud cruntch, thud, I narrowed it down to coming out of the bell housing and probably the pressure plate it still drove alright. So that was saturday! today its as smooth as silk and the initiall grabbing problem has also gone???? Is the whole thing about to fail or has it just cleared its "blockage'.

Please help, long drive comming up and dont want to be stranded.

    Hi
Like anythink new it has to bed in (running in) so if it is ok now the first day was just wearing in, the banging was probly the clutch grabbing hard but will smooth out after a few ks the more you drive the better it will get...

Sorry to Dash your hopes, I had a new clutch install, and never had this issue, or a run in period.

I would seriously think / investigate this, not "Run it in" ..

My new clutch never needed a run in. It was just normal.

well this has got alot of people stumped, I replaced the master and slave cylinders to new aswell, all I can think of is that perhaps the slave has not been machined properly- exept that its not leaking fluid
It is still crunching on the depress, has any one has dramas with the actual clutch pedal mechanism, mine has done 215000km?
    thanks

Nuts loose on the clutch master pushrod?

Did you put the clip over the slave pushrod, or the slave pushrod over the clip?

    Cheers

I am beginning to think its the pressure plate, perhaps 1 of the fingers is not right

your clutch master and slave could be unservicable, they work the first couple of times then it starts getting worse, this could be coursed by internal bleeding were the fluid is bypassing internaly past the seals and the throw of the fork is reduced so the bite point on the clutch is very close, thus the crabing and harsh take offs. when you install a clutch they don't need a ware in period they work staight away.

did the clutch plate get installed the right way round?? ie, gear box side to the gear box?? did you replace the dual mass flywheel?? if so did you clean the coating off the face first??

Sorry, only suggesting the mistakes I'd make, or have made.
