Thread: poly air for a 130, or keep double springs

Hello Scotty,

Father had exactly the same issue with his 130.

We first went to www.ultimatesuspensions.com.au for some help and the result was:

New Springs (and shocks) all around. In the rear we replaced the inner springs with poly air bags. Result: Excellent!

Ken, from ultimate suspensions, explained that the two spring suspension is very good if you have only occasionally heavy load. However if you have constantly heavy load you should get a single spring and if needed poly air bags. My father's 130 is always carrying heavy load and therefore needed the single spring. The poly air bags we mainly put in to level the vehicle better as it carries significantly more load on the passenger side.

Hi Scotty, I have a similar vehicle carrying work related loads all the time but have not yet felt the need to replace springs. Several questions occur to me. How old is the vehicle? Kilometres? I think if the front springs are failling it may be that the rear are losing it too.Polyair bags have the advantage of being adjustable to suit the loads you are carrying and appear durable if treated correctly.Eventually they must wear out as they rub on the springs as they flex.Mine did on my 110 County. I intend to stay with the coils and replace them as necessary.Hope this helps, 130man.

My 1998 130 HCPU which I recently purchased has 2" lifted EFS springs and dampers installed. The rear is only a HD single spring and they have installed long travel shocks with modified top shock mounts. The shocks and springs are onlly 18 months old, but the passenger side rear has sagged at least 20mm making the car lean over quite considerably. I am currently creating a spacer to compensate the lean, but it is only a band aid fix.

I am not happy with the EFS set up and am looking at alternatives so keep us informed on what you do.

I have had dobinsons springs and polyairs in my rangie previously and swear by the polyairs for load carrying capacity. As for longevity of the polyairs...never had a problem in 6 years of dust and mud.

I have a 130 that carries a lot of weight close to gvm and tow and i had the coils removed and put in full air bags. Never looked back.

I have done exactly the same and wished i had done it earlier. ultimate set up and smooth ride!!!!!!

what did this cost? and would you do it to the front as well? Have seen a pootrool ute this set up and was very impressed with the whole shebang.

Hi Mal I think the cost for the rear air bags were around $1500. Oppisite Lock in Midland did it speek to them very helpfull The front is a bit more difficalt have to relocate the front shocks. Cheers Ian

I'm sure there is a 3 year warranty on EFS product.
