    Electrical issue

    Hi guys,
I have an issue with my 300tdi fender.
There seems to be a short somewhere and im banging my head against walls trying to find it.
I have had a blown 60 mega fuse (under bonnet fuse location) and within minutes of a fully charged battery being connected it is drained to the point car will not start. (2.7 volts)
I believe it is in thew circuit that the blown fuse relates to but cant find any wiring diagrams to help. My head tells me its the starter shorting out and . Is there a simple test to perform for this ?
My brain is so switching off to this problem as i have been looking for causes between battery charging for days. I now fear that ive shortened the life of my new battery but **** happens as long as i can find the short ill be happy.

Well any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Shano,

IIRC the alternator has a slow blow 60A fuse, it is possible the short to earth is in the rectifier/ rotor. Try disconnecting the main charge wire (Thickest one) to the alternator and see if the current draw is still there.

After several hours of messing around this morning have narrowed the search to the starter switch circuit. If anyone has a diagram for this circuit would be great help. Or is there a usual spot a short occurs ie. in start switch itself.

The wiring diagrams are on the RAVE CD available from the shop on this site.

Regrettably, it's hard to print them to a file to post here. You can print them to paper.
