    Angry SVX Vibrator

What's large, black and vibrates when I get it up to speed?

Answer - A Land Rover Defender SVX!

It is back at Barbagallos again with a vibration problem. The Service Rep sent out a specialist in "defender vibrations" for a test drive in it. They will let me know tomorrow if they find the offending "cause" but I am not holding my breath! They keep asking me "is this the first Defender you have owned". When I tell them that my old 300tdi makes this feel like an old bomb, they seem to lose the ability to respond!

Tune in for the next saga of...................The Great Black Vibrator!!!!!!!!!!!

Does it happen at all speeds? Does it go away at certain speeds or above/below certain speeds? Just asking as I had a harmonic imbalance in the rear propshaft.

It gets up to about 80 to 90kms in 5th gear mainly but it can do it in 4th. I take my foot off the throttle and away it goes! They have already replaced both prop shafts as the originals had no grease nipples! It has since been replaced with prop shafts with grease nipples. There was much discussion between Barbagallos and Land Rover regarding the rear prop shaft. Now I have nipples and a vibrator! Who could ask for more?

There's a fine line between pleasure and pain.

Prop shafts out of balance or phase will cause that....maybe a specialist not a LR generalist should be called upon.

Because it isn't at all speeds, it sounds like a harmonic vibration - my problem was the rear shaft. They gave me the nippleless version without the vibrator - call me boring but it worked for me.

You're easily pleased! I would give up the nipples for a smooth ride anytime - Boy is this getting X rated!

Have you got a suspension lift or is it stock height?

If the latter, I'm putting money on the handbrake drum being out of balance!
