    TD5 oil drain plug thread

Does anybody know the size and pitch of the oil drain plug thread on the TD5?
I want to get one of those drain taps for it......

    I'd be interested.

But I thought the "taps" hang down so I was always concerned it would be subject to getting hit. Thought its tucked up heigh.

I wouldn't mind one of the magnetic ones but (sorry if this is a little off topic).

They do stick down a little bit (the one I'm looking at sticks out 20mm), and considering how high the sump is, I'm not too concerned, and I rarely do serious off road.
    They look pretty strong too.

Are these what you are looking at:
    4x4 Store

They are very good, direct replacement for the standard Landy plu, but they do hang down a bit. For that reason I havent got one fitted to my Defender.

Excellent if your Defender doesnt often get into the serious stuff, but I dont like the prospect of catching it and dropping 11 Litres of oil!

Certainly make changing oil MUCH easier and cleaner!

Same Idea, but I think this one looks a little more robust. they also show one fitted with a hoseclip to further prevent accidental opening (flying debris etc).

    Any experience with these anyone?

I like the idea of being able to drain a little oil, or to do it into 2 litre milk containers (being able to start and stop).

Usual disclaimers apply: I have no affiliation.....etc...

    Hi Fraser

I just looked at the Fumoto site for there drain plugs they only had Discovery listed in in the Land Rove models but I think they be the same size as the Defender, it's 14mm x 1.5 pitch drain plug is F-106 and coast $41 plus $8 deliviery...

Well, I ordered 2 (one for me, one for Dad)using the website's (and Ashley's) recommendation, I went for the nippled version, I'll let everyone know what I think when they arrive and are fitted.

Mate I went the "un" nippled version.

My next oil change is December 09 so by then I'll know if I should screw it in or not. Looking forward to your feed back

I just went out and checked and the 110 Def TD5 has a collar around the sump plug. A quick measure shows the inside diameter collar to be 24 mm. measuring the Fumoto shows seating base diameter of 25mm.

I'm not sure if you turned down the base diameter of the fumoto valve you would get enough clearance for the valve to seat properly, The alterntive would be to "pack" be base up with washers. Or grind the collar off the sump to allow the fumoto valve seat.

I note fumoto say they have some adaptors so I'll give them a call on Monday. Otherwise I think it may be the UK one?

    Fraser130 how did you go

Note my measurements were rough and with the sump loug in
