    water in engine

on the weekend my car had a trip into a creek and dident come out the other side, the engine stoped an it got pulled out,, i was in there for about 2mins, there was a little bit of water in the oil, an it wouldetn start agen, for the next 2 days every lil bit of elctrical bit on the car was cheaked over an found to be the ecu was dead, a transistor along the side of the ecu had bernt out,

it still terns over as same just wont fire, there was water in the air box an a tiny bit after the turbo, how much water is to much, i no that there should be none but yer,, the engine stoped cos of water in the ecu, an not from hydrolock, all the oils have been changed, im just wating to get the ecu fixed, should i still be very worryed about the engine,

pull the glow plugs (or spark plugs as required)
turn the engine over by hand a couple of rotations
    fling it on the starter
    do a compression test.

if the numbers on the comp test are the same you are now apples to put the plugs back in and hook it all up.

the water up the muffler gets there from the outlet end (which in part is why you do not try to restart a submerged engine even if it has a snorkle)

the compression test is not just for making sure that the rods not bent its also to make sure that the combustion chambers are empty.

if you have one high reading you have either blown all but one rod (unlikely and it probabley wouldnt bar over by hand) or you have one that still got water in the combustion chamber.

You will probably be ok. You have a snorkle dont you?

I did similar, got stuck in very deep water, engine stopped during recovery. stripped down intake but thankfully was bone dry, wouldn't restart, removed ecu, washed it out inside, dried it, started! dried it out properly and still works now years later. (albeit relegated to a spare now)

Do you have a spare ecu you can test it with?
