    Defender 110/Defender X-treme

Just a quick question – during the era of the defender X-treme, were all defenders branded as such, or was it possible to purchase a ‘standard 110 without the branding?’
    Cheers.

yep, the extreme was an option pack you could have you're fender in either spec.

xtremes came with abs/tc,roobar,central, side steps, power windows, tow pack and the stickers.

I got the dual battery, tinting, 2 way install, extra power outlets, and an updated stereo thrown in for nix.

They didn't come with side steps or tow pack as part of the xtreme edition (in 2002 at least). Remote for central was extra as well. And I would have preferred they came without the stickers. Also IIRC they were only selling the xtreme and the standard/base spec 110 was a special order.

For the 2005 English build models they dropped the sidesteps, bull bar, and rear step. The vehicle was otherwise identical but no longer carried xtreme stickers.

Yep. When we bought ours we could buy the 04 SA build with all the fruit or the 05 English build which were essentially bare but I was told they were better built. They were the same price but the SA ones were being discounted at the time too. Tough call.

Edit : The English ones has central locking and an alarm/immobiliser with fob like this. I'm not sure that the SA ones had that.

none of the ones I've had eyes or hands on have the remote version of the central, just the drivers door key operated stuff.

Although I believe the module that drives the central includes the hardware for the immobiliser and the remote central all you need is the key fob and a quick software tweak.

The ECU is programmed ex factory to accept remote key fob alarm etc. Just a matter of purchasing the fob and programming to the ECU. LRA didn't offer the alarm system when I purchased mine. I have the remote key fob as an option. I also added sidesteps and towbar as options. My vehicle was from one of the last UK shipments before they came from SA.
