SOLVED - Help please with that BLEEPING PUMA alarm

Hi all, I'm planning to spend several hours installing a GPS and various other bits an pieces into the new PUMA, and I cannot find instructions on how to stop the BLEEPING alarm of re-arming itself with the ignition turned off. Caught me out the first time alright bleeping noisy in an underground car park i tell ya LOL.

I don't think I want to keep the ignition on for all that time, so any advise from other PUMA owners appreciated.

    Hi slt

    That's a bit odd.

I've spent many an hour with the doors open whilst fiddling and never had this happen.

It only happens if I lock the doors and one of them is not closed.

    OK, that's different

Mine required the driver's door switch to be adjusted to stop the alarm from thinking a door was open when armed. But other than that I've spent anything up to a whole day working on it and never had the alarm re-arm itself and start beeping. The only time I can think of it doing that to me is if I've stuck the keys in my pocket and bent over and accidently pushed the lock button when a door's been open.

Are you unlocking the car with the key and not the fob button? This, according to the manual, won't disable the alarm unless the vehicle was locked with the key.

I thought it was weird too, but no, unlocked it with the remote. I've watched it, about 5 minutes after unlocking the red light in the dash starts to flash, then 30 seconds later all hell breaks loose unless I push the unlock on the remote again.

Now it may be different in the new one.... but the red light in the td5 is related to the key fob. It has an inductance loop type system. The key fob has to be near the ignition lock or the car won't start

I found out about this by booking my car in to have the cargo barrier fitted. I left them with the key, but took the key/alarm fob with me. The car wouldn't start

Try leaving the key fob next to the ignition.

The red light flashing should start after about 20-30 seconds, but the rest doesn't sound correct.

I think you need the 10AS Alarm ECU programming checked because my understanding is that there is a Passive immobilise setting in the 10AS unit but that this isn't enabled on the Australian Defender's. That's what it sounds like though.

    Hi Derek

On the odd occasion (and I haven't found the pattern) when the keys are left in the ignition (and not on accessory) the ignition is immobilised requiring resetting the alarm.

    Is this a related issue?

Does the key fob still look like this one?

The Lucas 10AS alarm in the Puma is the same unit from the Discovery from 96-98 and the Td5 Defender. The ECU has to have been altered slightly though as the Puma is CANbus and the others were not so I don't know the comm's details although it could just be getting a serial signal from the BCU which sits on the CANbus.

This is the Blackbox Solutions details on the unit: LUCAS 10AS ALARM (SM031)

Mahn, the immobilising you refer to is most likely related to this as well.
