I have also heard of the Duramax engine being fitted. but as also mentioned I would be fitting the 4bd1t isuzu engine old school reliadility and heaps of torque and good fuel econemy, but you have a good TD5 so work with it do your home work and how much power do you realy need.

I just got back from a trip to Exmouth towing a 30ft (all up 5 tonne) boat/trailer.The last day on the way into Exmouth it was about 40degrees, we were driving directly into a 30knot breeze(my thongs blew away when I was about to get out of the car and threw them on the ground!).and the last 100k's or so into town is full of hills.
Not many vehicles would tow that load, under those conditions, and not overheat.
The temp got to 100 and held firm...it's sorted...
Some will say 100 is too high but the trick with cooling is not so much the number but to get the temp to hold and stop rising, this means the cooling system is coping with what is being thrown it's way.
Heavy/continuous beach work is no problem, was a huge issue, now no problem at all.
I couldn't overheat my landy if I tried to, she hangs between 85/92 under all conditions other than the Exmouth experience above.
The extreme/chev combo is awesome.
I lived with the td5 for a couple of years pre 6.5 so I can make a reasonable comparison.
On road-not a huge difference
On road towing-Chev wins by significant margin
Off road-a world apart, the chev is in a different league with all the low down torque...way way way better,
you need to drive/experience it to fully appreciate the huge difference.
Brunswick are still waiting to hear me say "it's totally sorted fellas" and I'll be in touch with then soon.
I doubt they will do any more though....:D

Thanks for the info, so we can all blame you for turning Brunswick Diesels away from Defenders :p, the money I was going to use to convert my 110 I have spent now on a Harley, I dont think the wifey would appreciate it if i went out and spend a few dollars more:( When the bike finally turns up that will be my every day vehicle an I will leave the 110 for the weekends and trips away
Perhaps because it has a race car power band, 4500-7700 rpm and would no doubt have a short and merry life in LR type service being bounced around in the heat and dust.Quote:

I often see a white 130 around the Midvale/Bellview area in Perth, I'm not sure what he has in his but it sounds awsome when he cruises past. My TD5 will have to do now, they are a very good motor I have had no problems with it (touch wood:D) its has nearly 250k on it now and the mechanics at last service reckon i should see that again with out major problems
