Diesels have changed alot in the last 15 years and changing the oil in a Tdi onwards every 5k is a waste of oil, people who believe their engines will last longer changing at 5k are kidding themselves, most if not all engine failures with LR diesels and V8's are caused by overheating not by wearing out. There is alot of older mechanics that go by the 5k rule but the days of 2H engines are long gone,my Tdi has never had 5k changes and it has no sludge build up on the head after almost 12 years and the Td5 has a better filter system than it has,the 20k changes in my L322 are another matter, oil has improved 10 fold but it isn't good enough to last that long. Ha! I work on a vineyard too, up in the Adelaide Hills (Balhannah) growing Savignon Blanc.

-1.7 degrees out there overnight last night, and was still below zero at 7:30 this morning. Probably pretty cold mornings over your way too.

Although this is changing (hijacking) the topic - I did my Honours thesis at Maslins - and it was in Geology, not perving! But when the temps were cold down there in winter you'd still see some sights - headlights on full beam.

Nothing anywhere near that cold! 4.5 deg has been the coldest this winter.
