Thread: TD5 clutch noise

Hi,

My old mans TD5 defender has a slight metallic noise from the clutch/gearbox until the pedel is depressed... it does not sound like the usual throwout bearing noise.... anything to watch with the clutch or dual mass flywheel?

You need to be careful sometimes as the throwout bearing can begin to disintegrate and become a molten mass of metal which can cause further damage. The dual mass fly wheel is very sturdy and it is rare for them to crack. if the td5 engine is idling rougher than normal it could be a sign that the fly wheel is damaged.
