I've got a safari on mine and they seem to be a good unit.
The only thing I dont like is that I cant get a donaldson precleaner with the right diamitar to fit.
If you doing dusty off road to me that would be the deciding factor on which one to get
As per the subject guys please...
Currently my Defender TD5 has no snorkel. Im planning on shipping it out for a trip next year and thought Id ask what you people use... Safari, Mantec, TJM, Airflow???? Is there a preference?
Can you get pre-cleaners or internal socks for them all? Indeed, are they required (thinking Canning Stock Route)...
Any advice please.
Over here in the UK the Mantec & Safari are the two common ones.
Thanks
Jon

Have the safari unit myself, and it does the job just fine. Solid unit, hugs tight to the bodywork so isn't liable to be ripped off as easily as other models. Can't be easily adapted however, if you have an external rollcage or anythign that changes the layout of your landy between side air intake and the window pillar.
Donaldson.... That was the name I couldnt remember.
Any ideas which snorkels will take one (a Donaldson)?
Has anyone any opinions on the new Mantec "Plastic Jobby" - especially with regard to how well it drops dust out of the air. I know Derick on here has one, but he's on his trip now.
Im going to the UK Billing Landy Show next weekend so will try and go see the Mantec boys for a reccee!

Jon, Mantec or Safari, avoid the rest. I have an Airtec (TJM) on my Tdi and it is a higher profile than the Safari and so the mirror can open on to it. Also the head on the Safari is a more standard size and so you can fit a precleaner bowl, the Airtec one is a different size.
The Mantec Plastic Jobbie that I have on the puma is the best though.
Airflow are cheap and nasty in my opinion and would be the very last choice. Also I know of several people that have had problems with the fitting templates (all Land Cruiser or Hilux owners admittedly - there's not much to line up on a Defender)

Thanks Derick,
Plastic Jobby it'll be... so long as it doesnt foul the Patriot Roofrack!
I suspect it will be fine though (fingers crossed). May have to see if I can borrow one on Sale or return next weekend.
Thanks
