Hi all,
rained quite heavily on the way into work this morning, luckily I wear boots!!! the foot wells were, well flooded. I have down loaded the water proofing manual, have looked, scrached and patched with sealer and still - flooded. I am not too concerned about the water ingress exept that i have a rust issue and would love to stop it- so that the rust will not spead.
Any advice on obvious places i may have missed?

Look at the gutter where it meets the windscreen. The roof can spread here and the water runs down the rubber seals and down the door aound about where the window winder is located. There could be some fine cracks here. You can also look at the car head on and if the roof does not follow the curve of the windscreen perfectly, you may just see with the reflection of light a variation in the curve. It is a bit hard to explain but hopefully you get the idea.
The solution is to retighten the spped nuts in the roof that "pull the edges of the roof together" if you get what I mean.
As James said flap seals, if it is, then replace them with the rubber ones for a Series model not the later foam ones, the seal between windscreen and bulkhead can cause problems and check the door seals esp., the top front corners, good luck.

Mal, i am in perth, 130 too,
look behind the bolts holding the windscreen/bulkhead clamp is the paint behind it rusted to buggery ?
If so might be worth having a look under the matting below the dash you have to remove the metal plate (secured by self tapers) just see if you have rust there !
One other good spot to see how far the rust has migrated is brake master cylinder (to the left ) and under the heater box looks like bubbling until you hit it with the wire brush and it opens up.
Mine is a 1998 and i am changing out the bulkhead and doing the door skins ready for painting, should yours be rooted then maybe we should get together on a joint purchase should it work out cheaper on freight.

This band seals between the bulkhead and the windscreen frame. In my experience, it is quite rare for this to leak, even if it looks pretty terrible where you can see it. Mine is still in good condition after over twenty years of summers above forty, and when I repainted the Series 2a, the one on it was still good after thirty or more years, although I don't know if it was original.
In my experience the worst leak has been the brackets at the bottom of the windscreen as lardy suggests. These have a rubber seal under them, but the sealing area is quite small, and will leak if not installed exactly in position, and will leak as soon as there is any corrosion on either surface. As it is a high pressure area, it does not take much of a leak to get lot of water in.

yeah John, a drizzle with some pressure behind it should easily force it's way through, so when we get our downpours, it's kinda damp in there lol
Oh yeah john cheers for the original pointers on the bolts holding the clamp on ...it's where i first saw the bulkhead rot, after investigating further, i was like yippee major surgery !!!
