After further inquiries, I am no longer interested in the Defender.
Advert stated 'full service history' and when I tried to confirm weather or not it was with LR, they vanished.

Alarm bells ringing, and rang louder when he asked if I was still interested, as a deposit had been taken.

Now im onto a different one, its a year older, but the extras have pushed the price up. Longrange tank, bigger winch, air compressor, dual battery system and I have confirmed that it had a full LR history up until the warranty expired.

Does anyone know of a reputable LR inspector in the Melb area?

    Deefer 130 DCPU

    G'day,

Bought a 04 130 with 62K on the clocks. Has aircon, dual batt, side steps, roo bar and HD tow witch, AND service history with LR dealer.

Since then has a Tombie2 stage 1 chip, cleaned out airbox, K+N airfilter, safari snorkel, BFG Mud Terrains, IPF spots, chopped out the exhaust joint (under turbo) and fitted the EGR bypass kit. Driven 18000km in these 7 months between Perth and Karratha, the SW and goldfields and she goes like stink. For a barge near 2.5 tonnes and with aerodynamics of a shed, she'll do 11l/100km all day.

Yes it is noisy, dusty and comes with the ergonomics of the dark ages.

    Problems:

    1. Front door latches worn out and would not hold fully closed. Get any replacements through the UK parts sites as they were 50% less than Aust LR dealer (and quicker!!)

    2. Found oil in coolant header tank (slimey grey emulsion)- thought it was leaking oil cooler (common fault) but after a decent flush it hasn't returned after 5000k...

    3. Had to take out front headlining to tighten up roof bolts/fasteners.

    4. Clutch master cylinder leaked. Replaced it and servo with recon units (stainless sleeves as the alloy bores wear out). Subsequently had to have master done again.

    5. During rebuild of doors (for the new locks) found the beginnings of rust.

    6. Black plastic trims such as door and aircon vents break easily. Bitch to find in the wreckers...will be heading to UK soon so might have to take shopping list.

    7. Clutch spigot bearing whines when cold.

Aew why dont you fill the door inners with wurths version of waxoyl should slow the rust down substantially.
And how/why did you tackle the roof bolt fasteners what is the give away that something is aray ???
would i get that on my old bus ??
before you start looking at doors, skins may be the answer although only fronts are available as PWB have ceased trading they are 100 quid each, had the possibility of 70 quid each not sure if those skins are available still ...bad news is that the rear doors come complete skin frame build ups as most supplies of PWB skins have expired
