have agood trip reeksy
I fitted a new fuel filter (Ryco) as part of a service to my TD5 a short while ago.
As it was the first one, I wasn't entirely sure how tight the water trap should be. It didn't seem terribly tight, but I assumed it was ok as the seal seemed to be doing its job.
And it was.
Until, 400km later, two nights before my 6-9 month trip we go out to a restaurant ... and pour diesel down the main street in Bargara. Fortunately I carry a spare, which happened to be a Coopers filter. I tested the water trap on that in the car park and it was like an entirely different thread. And the Ryco certainly hadn't cross-threaded.
Took the Ryco back to Repco today and they pulled another out ... 0.5 mm difference on the diameter of the thread. I tried the blanking bolt in that and still wasn't happy so I got my money back and will make sure I get a Coopers one for the replacement spare.
I looked for one in S/Cheap but they only had Ryco, too. But check this for an interesting price comparison.
Ripco $89, including my 20% discount
S/Cheap $55!!!!!
That's for the same Z615 Ryco filter.
I'm a bit cross (but not that cross, 'cos i'm going touring for 6-9 months starting tomorrow morning... look out for me in a town / bush near you.![]()
