    Benders clutch problem

    ok driving home from work last night i got about 500 metres from home when i suddenly felt the clutch pedal go really hard when cluth pedal is depressed about half way in and there was a bit of a clunk into the gear i was selecting, put it back down into third and felt it tighten up even more, had to drive home in third cos didnt wanna risk serious damage,

    anyone had a similar situation happen to them? the clutch got replaced about 4 years ago. im thinking its the master cylinder issue, or possible a master cylinder pedal pushrod issue

    any thoughts?

    well its not the master cylinder or the slave cylinder, the master cylinder got replaced and the slave got a new kit in it, was very angry to check the fluid and found it brown to black with sluge in it, the curse of the dodgey mechanic i used to take my beloved truck to strikes again!!

    gonna give brian turner a ring on monday and get it towed to his shop.

    Hmmm, if the pedal has done that I reckon the clutch fork has failed.

    ALWAYS replace the fork when doing a clutch in a Tdi, AND pack decent lube onto the pivot ball.

    when the fluid is brown and this black stuff shown below comes out of the master cylinder, so i think it could be a combination of things,


    gonna ask for a complete full service to be done on the car at the same time

    bloody hell just had this on the 130 i changed the master slave fork and clutch kit, just because i am new to the vehicle and dont know it's history,i changed the master out after looking at it, it was scored. as suspected it was the fork but it's one less thing to go wrong in my opinion,didn't have the inclination to do it myself so i got the RAC to do it for me being a member, they were ****house in some respects but good in others.
    Although you will have to tell em twenty times its the fork !!
    and of course get the clutch done while its out they charge 1800 notes for the end result but they lost the seat belt retainer for the seat box the cocks!

    oh yeah they machined the flywheel as well for that amount good luck chief !
