I had the same problem with my TD5 110 wagon when I got the long ranger replacement tank fitted. I couldn't have the LR tow hitch which I liked and had to have the ARB tow pack installed instead. ARB sell Long Ranger so their tow packs fit. The other annoying thing was I also lost the rear step in the process because that didn't fit once the tank and tow pack were installed.Originally Posted by Lightweight

After weeks trying to get this sorted, i still cannot find a solution (the local installer can't find a solution) so I am going to have to take a trip to Sydney to get it sorted.
Can anyone provide a good supplier who knows and understands LR's and especially Defenders and who will get this sorted out? I REALLY need to be able to tow my camper very soon! The north shore and districts would be great, but if not I can travel deeper into Sydney to get a tow hitch...

The local installer did use the ARB pack, this is the confusing issue, they even say they spoke to both the ARB engineers and LRA, still with no solution. They kept harping back to the extra chassis length as the issue, the bolt holes where apparently out by "quite a few mm's"

I've been looking around at long range fuel tanks and ran across this problem also.
The advice I've received is that the LR tow hitch will have to be replaced with an ARB tow pack. The rear step will also have to go in the process because it doesn't fit once tha ARB hitch is installed.
Why, because the ARB Tow Pack has been designed to fit with the Long Ranger tank but ARB weren't concerned about the step.
From what I read above, this is exactly in line with BlueWagon's experience.
I'm confident that this advice is correct.
On the other hand if there's been a miscalculation by LR in drilling holes in the chasis ...... good luck !

After a month of searching, ringing and chasing. I have finally sorted the issue. I went armed with the schematics from the Hayman Reese hitch, took it to one fitter and he just said NO. He was obviously in the crowd who just say no when they see the green oval. he gave me a thousand reasons why it couldn't be done, including "Boss wouldn't let me spend that much time making it work".
I went to one last fitter before embarking on a drive to Sydney, they where brilliant. I walked into the shop at 12:30 yesterday and by 1500 it was finished. I have a brand new Reese tow hitch that took 30mins to install. The previous installers had not bothered to read the instructions correctly, and they could not make the ARB hitch fit. The Hayman didn't even require the removal of the LongRanger tank.
No i can tow the Kimberley next weekend when we go away.
