    Reduction/crawler gears

I have recently had to remove the gearbox from the Defender (R380) and am having to send it away for repair. So as the box has to split anyway I thought why not make the process more expensive but at least get some fun at the end and get some super low gearing installed. So, who makes what, how much, is it even possible and any other info I need to know, thanks.

You should have an LT230 Transfer Case with your R380

AFAIK, Ashcroft underdrive or Maxi-drive 30% or 49% lower low range (from MR) are the only options with your LT230/R380.

The intermediate gear of the LT230 needs to be modified (sent away to MR) for the Maxi-drive conversion, as well as grinding some material from inside the gearcase and shift rod to fit the new low range gear.

Ashcroft underdrive bolts on to the pto flange of the LT230. Needs some custom work to fit the new shift lever, but AFAIK is all done with the LT230 in place.
