300 Tdi brake vacuum pump help

    Hi Guys,
I need to fix my vac pump; I've done a bit of reading and am unsure of how important finding no.1 TDC is before removing it as I don't have any locking tools. Any tips?

maybe take your rocker cover off and rotate the motor by hand until both tappets on no. 1 are loose

It's of little consequence at all - just turn the crank over until you feel the least pressure against the fixing bolts. In taking it off it doesn't matter anyway and when bolting back up just turn the crank till you feel the cam lobe at the lowest setting to make it easier to bolt up.
