I never had a problem with the new patch going in...but then I had a brand new engine attached to my patch![]()
I have just spoken to Southside enquiring if Land Rover have advised on what action to take over the rattle.
It will be an engine change out, and although LR haven't advised Southside of what the problem is, one possibility is that it might be the oil cooler jets issue.
I did report to them a couple of oil changes ago, that I there was more visible wear debri in the oil filter than I am used to seeing in all my previous engines. They weren't too concerned, and there might not be a direct connection to the rattle either, but I'm glad about the engine changeout, as those things gave me a few concerns about its long term performance, efficiency and reliability.
Southside will advise me when an engine is available.
Will keep you all informed.

Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
Well, the new engine is now fitted to the Puma under warranty, and after a week's running around, it is quieter at idle, and also feels a bit more robust under acceleration.
POWER? It does seem to lack a bit of power compared to the original engine. I realize that it will improve as it beds in more...but it does not hold revs on hills too well at all.
It seems ok up until about 2000 rpm, when it just seems to bog down and go nowhere. I've only done about 500km so far. I'll know for sure next time I go up the Toowoomba range, as the old engine would do it in 5th right up until the 60KPH near the top before changing back. I'd be surprised if it'll match it, by the feel so far.
Does anyone know if these engines need to be tuned to the engine computer when installed? And is it possible that some more work may be required in that department? I'm more old school with diesels. Still got a lot to learn about modern ones. Appreciate comment from those with knowledge here.
