    Hello and Help!

    Hi all,

Ignore the name, I am now a proud owner of a '96 300tdi defender, a few modifications but has mainly been used as a camper rather than an off-roader so not too far from standard, im sure that will change.

The first mod. I am doing is getting rid of the old cassette deck it is currently sporting and putting in a new unit and speakers.

I didnt expect it to, but the wiring harness at the back of the LR unit has no resemblance to the pioneer unit i am about to put in. Does anyone know where i can get hold of a wiring diagram or can anyone tell me what each colour does? I have had a search on the net and cant find anything that matches...

    we have
    blue
    blue / black
    yellow
    yellow / black
    black
    grey
    red
    pink
    green
    green / black
    white
    white / black

The car is all ready bringing back fond land rover memories of how little jobs can take hours, good times!

    Any help much appreciated.

    David

Hi Dave, can't help you with your question but I thought I would comment on the speakers. I put a couple of new ones into my ute the other day that I purchased from repco. You need to look out for the depth of the one on the left-hand side. The new one that I bought was about half an inch deeper (the magnet) and wouldn't fit properly, it keep hitting up against that thingo that is behind it. (Thingo - not sure what it actually is, but its large anyway).

Thanks for the help guys. I went to remove the 'old' front speakers only to find that they had already been replaced with some decent two way 4" at some point in the past, they had just put the original grills back on! A friend has also offered to give me a pair of 6x9s and two 10" subs and box, now, where to mount them...

Not been able to find a diagram so will attack it with a multimeter and figure it out the hard way tonight. Findings to follow.

    All installed,

some work with the multimeter and i found the following on my '96 300tdi 110:

    Red - Accessory
    Pink - Batt
    Black - Illumination
    green - Left -
    green/black - left +
    white - Right -
    White/black - Right +

I know black stripe usually is the neg. but for some reason it was the other way round.

A donated set of 6x9s are going to live under the middle row of seats in front of the rear wheel arch. I will make them easily removable for when i need the seats folded forward. Will try and post pictures when it is all done.
