    '99 Td5 110 Fuel issue...maybe

Hi All, with a warm/hot engine there's been a strong smell of diesel seemingly from gearbox/rear engine area but there's no sign of a leak. Recently noticed [very] slight surging of power and/or occasional lack of power at 60-80kmh. Is it possible that a recently fitted recon injector has a vapour leak or similar? The fuel regulator looks dry, clean with no signs of leaking. Can't see / find anything obvious. Any ideas or thoughts? cheers

Didn't think you could recondition the TD5 injectors

Check your engine oil level. If the injector seals leak, then the sump fills with fuel & could create an odour.

Thanks Scouse. Well spotted. I've noticed the dipstick level being slightly higher than expected. If I was a gambler...odds on the injector seal is leaking..time for a mechanic to confirm. Is this an easy job or not?

I can't speak from experience but it shouldn't be a hard job from what I've seen.

If you are sure the sump is getting a dose of fuel, do the seals first but keep an eye on the levels as the odd head has been known to crack around the injector.

".....Didn't think you could recondition the TD5 injectors..."

Rovertech in Perth gave me the choice of a new or reconditioned injector...the recon was $308 versus $880 new....from memory they source them from NSW [I could be wrong].

When my 2001 TD5 110 was under warranty the injectors were priced at $1,500 each. As I said the LR spare parts bloke

"I don't wont you to invent them, just replace them".

We both had a good chuckle
