"I MUST be a hardcore offroad driver,,'cos I have a winch!"
Firstly, let me clarify that I am talking about vehicle mounted winches, not hand winches. It also depends what you want to use a winch for.
If you do a search, there have been plenty of discussions around this subject but the basic argument goes something like this:
A vehicle mounted winch can only pull in the one direction and as they are usually mounted on the front, they can only pull you forwards. When you get stuck, the easiest way out is usually to go out backwards...
If you carry a hand winch (such as a Turfor), you can use it in any direction.
Then, there's the question of weight... By the time you add the weight of the winch and winch bumper, you're looking at >100kg. That extra weight in front of the front axle, not only means that you need to adjust your suspension setup but it quite often affects your approach angle. Don't forget also your GVM as that extra weight reduces the amount you can carry...
Personally, if it weren't for the fact that I have Camel & G4 cars, I wouldn't bother with a vehicle mounted winch.
I'll let someone else present the argument for...

I'm also looking at the 2inch lift, i think would be best is to put all my add on bits then work out how much it all weighs then get the springs to suit. It's all idea's at this point, main reason for a winch was if i go away with just one 4b i can get out easy.
Though to add to that have heard LR's are good at reversing out of trouble.
its the easiest lift coz they say you don't have to change much, but i havn't done one so i don't know.
Very Nice wisey110 great colour hope to see you on the tracks enjoy![]()
