    Air-con anyone ????

Here is a piece courtesy of this months Land Rover monthly magazine :
Elite Automotive systems have been suppliers of air con to land rover for many years.
Elite used to take delivery of new land rovers from the factory, fit a/c and ship them back again.
but when the new land rover company owners came along it was in elites words ta-ta to the contract (get it???)
So managing director Paul Miller came up with the idea of supplying units direct to enthusiasts as well as specialist land rover parts dealers such as bearmach.
Warning : the system once installed needs a professional a/c chap to gas it.
it is something that cannot be installed by yourself.....the gas that is

In LRM it goes on to show a step by step method of installation, and it looks fairly easy to do by yourself, it comes with all the piping, the compressor, the condensor radiator and fan, all the mounting kit - and it is designed in such a way that you should be able to install it without draining down the coolant system (happy days)
here is the testing propaganda :
Testing Elite Automotives hot test chamber, ensures that all hvac and A/c systems are tested under extreme conditions.
recreating the conditions needed to ensure the products perform well in extreme environments is a vital part of the design and development process.

They produce an alternative product for extreme enviroments (Australia maybe) it is similar to the standard pom version but maybe not as good looking as the land rover dash panel (big worry-not) but is said to produce more cold air in hot climates.
Contrary to appearences the a/c panel does not affect leg room.
If you purchase for Australian conditions even though it is obvious where its getting sent mention that you need the more extreme version!!!

well if TATA said TATA brilliant that has to be a move in the write direction, considering the 110s have never had a decent system fitted ever.

i will be making my own, basically from scratch, any thing will be better than whats in the county.

Price is <$2k including shipping (need to keep your existing AC compressor). Second hand defender systems seem to go for around the $2k mark.

The good thing about a roof mounted one is that you can carry passengers with legs.

I have a Yokahama unit mounted to the roof (on the inside, above the rear door) in the back and when it is on max you could keep half a dozen penguins happy.
