So off roading a Land Rover would render it un roadworthy! Wow, I'd be hammering them to cover that, pushing that it's a design fault that the vehicle can't cope with what it's intended for. ie fit for purpose. There's nothing in the owners manual about striping and cleaning the handbrake is there, so it's not an owner's maintenance issue.

fording depth of a landrover is 500mm.

anything over that height that gets damaged by water or mud ingress that is attribuatable to bottom up entry is not covered by warrenty. Toyotas been using it for years.

Another solution is to move your handbrake to a position between the drivers seat and it's original position, using a Discovery handbrake.

This will solve 2 problems for you - one the cable slack will be taken up and two, you are less likely to get mud into it again.

Also you will gain precious leg room. I have done this on 2 Defenders now, one quite recently.

The whole process takes around an hour, but you will need some basic tools, drill, hole saw, ...
