    Probably because at least one European country had punitive taxation on engines over 2.5l, and fuel costs in Europe generally favour smaller engines for what is, after all, a commercial vehicle.

    The Australian market is no longer large enough to justify a special model, and the Defender is unable to meet US regulations (when they did sell it there it used the petrol V8 - diesels are not popular in the US anyway).

    Actually, the fitment is easier than the TATA engineers thought & the official release date will be April 1, 2010.
    Is it just me or is this not some of the most exiting news you have heard in a long time.
