Thinking of upgrading disco to fender.

    Hey guys.
I have a disco 93, I love it goes good on beach and in bush. Ivehad big plans of doing it up." 4x4 weapon" but I'm a little worried bout the space in back. And find myself wishing it was a bit longer to sleep in and carry work gear etc. So I've been looking at defenders and county's. If I find the right one ill sell the disco and spend time and money doing It up. Thinking 90's models, any thoughts on these? What pros and cons etc?

Upgrading a disco to a fender..

Pros: space, style, practicality, general awesomeness.
    Cons: none.

Seriously though, under the hood there is a lot that is the same.. except that the fender has more flexible suspension (pun intended :P ).

The fender is a little more noisy, and a little less fancy but it makes up for that in other more practical areas. I mean, you can actually hose it out. No more flapping around vacuuming trying to get out little muddy / dusty bits.. you just take out the maps and turn the hose on.

I think just about everything to look out for is covered on the forum.. but keep an eye out for rust etc.

Others will have more to add..

Brutus: 1969 109 ExMil 2a FFT (loved and lost)

    I have had two Defenders and a Discovery 2, two TD5's and a 300TDI.

There is no doubt the Discovery is a more comfortable and driver friendly vehicle, especially the auto. The auto Discovery was a dream to drive on the beach, it performed very well, i was never overly impressed with the 300TDI on the beach (Stockton) It was ok, but never great like the Disco. The defender in standard form is as capable in the bush as any other car, and then some. I personally think the Defender is a better all round package, giving much greater load capacity and much more customisable. If you can give up a few comforts in the cabin, and a softer ride, then "Upgrade" to the Defender.

I leave it up to the motor experts to comment on the best motor. My experience with the 300TDI was faultless, 300K with not one single issue.

Thanks guys. Just got back from Stockton "lightweight" I'm up there every week. Yeah as far as comfort goes I don't think the 93 disco is that good cause of it's age in it's day I'm sure it was great. But that's not big on my list of needs. I like the idea of more space in back and easy customisation to suit my needs and a go anywhere easy sort of truck. The turbo 200tdi in my disco goes great I would like if the defenders go aswell or better.
