Floor Plates
Hi All,
Firstly Merry Christmas to all.
I am pretty new to these new fangled coil sprung trucks so excuse the silly questions (only ever had Series trucks and 100inchers)
I have a 1984 110 V8 trayback in need of love.
Some of the love required in involved in the firewall floor where some rust has kicked in. Now I have a plan to cut the floor out and replace with sections from a firewall which is in a Series 3 that I am wrecking. My intention is just to Mig weld the new bits in and then flapper wheel and paint with whiteknight or killrust.
But before I do this it seems there is a 2-3mm flat plate in the floor board section already. It doesn't look original but I was wondering if this is a factory thing for stiffening or is it a previous addon/repair.
Help please!
Rich

Hi Rich,
Yeah they had that plate from new. A scuff plate or stiffener I think they call it. All it usually does it encourage rust to start under it as most 110's leak water. However it probably serves a useful purpose in strenghtening the footwell..............Brian

Hi Brian & thanks for the reply.
So this begs the question. Is this piece of flat steel which seems to be attracting tinworm to my firewall needed? Like can I cut it out and leave it out??
Do the later models, Defenders etc have this piece?
Rich
