Reads90 - thanks for that. my mistake as I thought that your rear door dropped down (as in a ute back). I was wondering how it locked onto the door (as in how it worked on a drop back). I'm considering a Puma 110 twin cab HCPU and wondered about shifting the spare from inside the pick up back to the outside.

I'm not even sure that it's a Dixon Bates. I thought Dixon Bates either just had the jaw with no tow ball, or the jaw and tow ball as part of the casting.

I didn't think they had the tow ball as part of the pin, but I might be wrong.

    Ranga,
The same design hitch is still available in the UK, the ebay one looked like an older version.

The 2 bolt flange mounting hitch is a standard in the UK , or at least was about 12 years ago.

From memory you fitted a thicker drop plate to the bolt holes in the rear crossmember on a Series LR and then bolted the hitch to that, although looking at the Witters website the mounting is now a little more substantial.

No problems with towing heavy loads, in fact when I arrived in Australia I thought the Australian tow ball looked weak in comparison. It just depends what you're used to......
