    Defender 90 Pit Inspection WA

    Hello all.
Im now the proud owner of my first Landrover. 2003 Defender 90 that was for sale in QLD. It was in the Marketplace here last week.
It is currently on the truck over to Perth. It has been a bit of a pain buying interstate but hopefully it will be all worth it.
Once it arrives i will need to take it over the pits in order to get it registered in WA. It seems overkill as the seller had to pay for a roadworthy/safety Cert in QLD before he could put the car up for sale, and now 2 weeks later i will have to pay to have a similar inspection done!!
Has anyone taken a car over the pits in WA recently? One thing i read on another post( i think it was some silva or nissan site) was that if the car is fitted with an aftermarket exhaust you may need to get an emissions test done before they will pass you....
The 90 has got a Taipan XP exhast fitted so do you think i could be stuffed? Would the inspector have any idea that it was an aftermarket exhaust? its not like you can stick your head in it like some sports cars!
    Any thoughts/tips?
    Thanks

    The pits inspection will check:

    Vehicle ID (numbers)
IMMOBILISER - must have one fitted - nobody told me!!!
    Lights
    Horn
    Wipers
    Seat belts

They will then put the vehicle over the "pit" and check:

    Tyres
    Brakes
    Steering
    Suspension
    Leaks
    Chassis/Body (damage/rust)

They will then jack up one wheel and check wheel bearings/swivel bearings

Then they will take it for a road test with you in the passenger seat.
    (I may have missed something...)

EDIT - I don't think they will worry about the exhaust unless it is obviously too loud. On my 110 they made me get a downward facing tip fitted to the end of my FACTORY exhaust. It exited at the rear corner, they deemed it a "side facing" exhaust, and stated all side facing exhausts need to exit downwards.

Thanks for that. I shouldn't need to do anything to it then before taking it over
the pits. Now it's just the waiting game, they have said 15 working days! Hopefully it might be a bit quicker than that!!

When I pitted my Defender and they did everything Isuzu described above and it was all going great until they looked at the seatbelts. The nicks in the belt that occur when the belt gets caught in the door are an instant fail. Check those.

They actually told me my car was in great nick ( you should have seen it before I wrote it off, I thought bitterly) and said go get new belts and race back and they'll just eyeball it and sign off. They thought my "anything else is cr_p" sticker was hilarious.

On the day you are booked in (do you book? I can't remember) get there at 630am with the newspaper and wait - the queues get horrendous very quickly.

When I changed my rego over they didn't drive it,they just done the inspection.I had alot of trouble as numbers didn't match up and it had been registered as a petrol not diesel so I had to get two inspections done even though defenders aren't sold as petrols and each time was $67. Pat

It had done 78k kms and some extras fitted. Buy the time it gets to my door it will cost me about $28000.
I had been looking for one for about 6 months and not many decent ones come around.
Im located just south of perth, can't wait to get it dirty as it will be my first 4wd.
