how to remove 110 aircon/heater box

Can anyone tell me the order of removal of the heater box and the aircon unit from under dash. is it a big or difficult job.
next summer i am getting a rooftop reverse cycle aircon so i am removing all the old components to make more leg room and heater box to make room for a 3rd battery.

Well the heater box is out, not as big a headache as i thought.
Now onto the aircon unit then remove all the pipes and wires in the engine bay.

Wow so much room now in the engine bay and easy to get to things.

I have googled quite a few manufacturers in australia but the red dot ones look good and other landy owners have put them on. There is a new one that is very slim- they are all around $1500-$2200. The good thing is that once the aircon+wires and heater + wires are removed there is so much more room in the cab and under the bonnet. I have even gone as far as pulling out the whole dash last night ( i mean all-right back to the firewall) so i am making a custom dash now and new instrument panel because i can make twice as much storage space etc . specially without the heater and aircon ducting pipes . The only thing left is the wiper motor.

well the aircon is out and the complete dashboard.
I decided that since there are lots of vent pipes, holes where speaker was and vent holes that i would make a new dashboard.
The only thing i cant move is the wiper motor (wish i could). Also i cant think of a way of opening and closing the front vents so i will screw them shut until i come up with a new mechanism- the origianl ones have to protrude out to far to make them work and i dont want to clutter up the new shelf. All this plywood is just a template and i can already see a few changes i have to make., the bottom part is yet to be constructed but theres lots of room to add anything i like.
The whole thing will be designed to come apart with about 6 screws and in 3 components which will allow me to get to the firewall in about 30 secs. I may put new guages in and change the layout a bit- the guages/dash part will have a shroud built into the dash top which i havnt made yet (maybe cherrywood or Jarrah) the rest will be upholstered.
Anyone know if its possible to run an all in one speedo/fuel/temp guage- the problem is that the speedo is electric run- dont think these can work off diesels with no computer

			Defender air con

					Hi Bigmark,
I looked at roof top units but decided on a Red dot Model R-6830, fits very nicely in place of the cubby box, also works great as a demister.
 Regards, papadad
