Thread: Possible Damage Caused by Workshop

The speed sensor is a proximity sensor which senses from teeth in the hub/cv depending on vehicle model.

It is quite possible that it has been moved/damaged during the install. It could simply be that the hub position has changed a bit with new bearings.

Not really as I haven't played with new defenders much first hand. There should be others who can give you vehicle specific info.

It sounds as if two corners have been worked on??? Get underneath and try and find the sensor wires, and check that they are still connected/undamaged as a starting point.

Do you have a multimeter? Here is some generic info:

the sensors do move if your not careful with them.

if hes had it apart and contaminated the tone ring that will also cause failure especially if you get ferrous metal particles caught up on it.

if your lucky providing the sensor has been knocked away from the tone ring all it will require is a bit of time and effort pull the sensor out and inspect the tone ring through the hole if its dirty you can get in through the same hole with a long cotten bud and brake clean to clean it up then its just a case of repositioning the sensor.

It may also be a case of cracked wires in the harness.

If you're going to check the sensor with a meter dont forget that you should also very slowly turn the wheel while your checking it to make sure that the sensor is picking up the tone ring correctly, the meter reading should fluctuate if it is.

Hi All,
After a weekend of driving the Defender about - it seems the ABS/TC lights are coming on more so when l corner left and put the cars weight on the right hand side (the side that had the hub out).

Is this possible or is it just me??

Want as much info before l take it back to my mechanic...have not got the bill yet. Also waiting on that....as l think he shoudl rectify this with no labour charge.
