Similar symptoms happened to me with a D1. Whenever I tested the front end, jacked the car up and "wobbled the wheels" there was no movement. When one day I had my wife turn the steering wheel with the motor on there was substantial movement in one of the tie rod end ball joints. Try this as the movement did not occur when the weight was off the front end.


Anyway, have noticed of late that when start the defender in the mornings as I turn the wheel to execute the 3 point turn it requires to get out my driveway there is a noticeable bump to be felt thru the steering wheel and just heard as I approach full lock on the LHS.Feeels like something binding and then just letting go like a stuck handbrake but nowhere near as bigger bang, more of a knock.Everything works,looks ok, any ideas??
