    1) Dealers now do offer extension to factory warranty - apparently, when I bought my Defender in October 2007, they didn't.

    2) Dealers will offer one of 2 policies...

    i) A 4 year National Warranty Company underwritten policy, or
ii) A 3 year Allianz underwritten policy.

    3) Both need to be taken out prior to the original factory warranty expiry date.

    4) Both require the owner to maintain scheduled servicing - doesn't have to be done by a dealer in either case.

    5) Details of the National Warranty Company offer - 4 years (or 120,000km) costs $2695.00. The dealers who sell this product will tell you it includes road side assist - but it isn't the same as the original Land Rover RSA - there are km restrictions imposed. 50 km in the county, 20 km in the city. So if you break down on the French Line you pay big bucks to be recovered. No mention of rental reimbursement, travel/accommodation expenses or locksmith services etc. You need to send NWC receipts of all non dealer servicing to prove your upkeep - within 1 week of servicing. Doesn't cover interior items or panel/paint issues. Can be transfered to new owners - cost of doing so - $100.00. Approved Warranty work done only by approved repairers - LR dealerships. Monetary limit per claim up to vehicle's market value. Has some fine print that worries me - such as NWC can reject any claim at their discretion.

    6) Details of Allianz policy - 3 years (or 60,000km) costs $2393.00. Has limited towing costs covered (up to $150.00 for any one claim), rental reimbursement, accommodation / travel expenses and locksmith services included. Need to maintain scheduled servicing - don't need owner to send receipts of servicing work, but keep records in the event of a claim. Covers interior items. Can be transferred to new owner at no charge. No monetary limit to claim payout. Warranty work done by approved repairers - but MR Automotive, for example, can do my warranty work under this policy. Has no dodgy fine print.

    7) Land Rover themselves offer extensions to their Australia wide Road Side Assist program for up to the time the vehicle is 10 years old - currently costs $140.00 per year for the Oz wide no exceptions recovery (called Premium cover) which may be renewed on a yearly basis.

I hope this info might be of help to those of us who will be facing a choice soon - do we take it out? If so, with whom?

I go the Allianz and steer well clear of the other one.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

You can buy an extended warranty from any dealer though - if you re-read the thread, you will see a SE Qld dealer who can organise you an Allianz warranty if that is what you prefer.

Bear in mind - you might be fine with the policy your dealer is offering - you need to make that decision.

    Extended Warranty

    Evening Folks,

My first post after subscribing this evening. So good to be here and thanks for having me!

Am in the process of purchasing a 2008 D3 with 55K on the clock & just under 12 months factory warranty left to go. Would love to be able to purchase the Allianz product that is being referred to here. Both ULR & MLR here in Melbourne shrugged their shoulders at the mention of any extended warranty. I spoke to Austral in Brisbane who recommended NWC & then to NWC directly here in Tarralgon, VIC.

Austral quoted inflated prices to those shown in the PDS (probably their cut) as follows:
    1 year - 30,000km extension = $2045
    2 year - 60,000km extension = $2295
    3 year - 90,000km extension = $2495
    4 year - 120,000km extension = $2695

Personally, while the folk at Austral were friendly I'm unimpressed with everything NWC said, did, emailed and have on their website. View the PDS downloadable here on the NWC site: Automotive

Way too many if's and buts in the NWC PDS documentation for my liking along with a personal gut feeling that clearly says to me: beware.

So, my question: Where can I purchase the Allianz Product here in Victoria? If not, is Southern Cross Towoomba the only option? Would appreciate any specific experiences &/or to hear from anyone who has recently purchased the Allianz product through a LR dealer.

    Cheers,

    Brett.

Hello Brett and welcome to the forum. You should enjoy your stay here.

The prices I quoted (and you have repeated) were for a Defender, not a D3 - I'm a little surprised the figures are the same, as I was given different pricing for a D3 when the Southern Cross fellow thought I meant a D3!

Be that as it may, you simply need to get a list of dealers and ring them. You can even buy the extended warranty through an interstate dealership - it does't matter where you live, as people can move interstate etc during the warranty period so they are completely transferable.

As I say - get a list of dealers and ring - you will find one soon enough that offer the Allianz product - or just ring Southern Cross and ask for Luke.

Best of luck with your Land Rover ownership.

Interesting the price of a three year extended warranty through NWS is listed as $2110 ($2000 + $110 4WD surcharge) in their PDS and it says this includes dealer's commission. However Austral see fit to charge $2495 for the same product!

I was only offered the Allianz one by my dealer - good to know it was the right one. Do I sign up for the extended roadside assist at sale time or when it expires? Assume the original roadside assist lasts the 3 years?

Mate - just before your 3 year RSA expires (if you own a new vehicle), Land Rover Australia will send you a letter offering you a yearly extension - up to the vehicle being 10 years old. Renew then.
