Thread: fender intercooler

The price of elbows/clamps adds up pretty quickly, so I'd be more inclined to try and find something with the inlet/outlet in the right direction.

Not as thick, but wider. Maybe someone else can comment on the performance/efficiency side of things.

should do nicely... Id be tempted to take it to an ally welding shop and have the bends you need fitted permanently mainly on the basis of less clamping joints is a good thing.

That cossie one wont fit, the long side 600 will be a little tall for a fender front end.
Did look at it...

Had thought about that Dave but reckon a reducing 90 degree in silicone would be easier than hard pipe. Details I guess... The VNT wont have stock turbo outlet so will need some fab anyhows.

Has anyone seen any posts or anyone doing the air to water closed intercooler for a 300Tdi ? was talking to outlaw and he said its not as good as a std intercooler, ideas?

air to coolant intercooling is great if you're working the turbo hard all the time....

but the air still comes out at a reasonable temp.

All the trucks that I've worked that have a coolant charge air cooler also have an air to air intercooler.

The best setup is in the R series Mack. you get a primary charge air cooler which cools via the normal cooling system and then you have an air-air intercooler that has a tip turbine that blows air over the intercooler and the tip turbine is spun up by boost air. The kicker is... The harder you work the engine the more air is bled out of the boost air circut which spins the tip turbine harder which cools the charge air further which makes it more effecient and helps keep the EGT's down...

sure its only 275 HP but its 1600nm of torque at 1200RPM.. (more if you want to toast up the turbo past 650 degs.)

how good does the tip turbine sound when it winds in as the engine drops revs under load and the governor gives it the steam....

you can bet the jewels that when I get the suzi or the 'troit for the black think that its getting a duplication of that setup....

Thanks, I got a guy to price up a water to air intercooler for my CC130 300Tdi only thing is i dont drive it to the red line so not sure if it will help me as well as a replacement core for the std one i have at the moment.
