rear speakers where to put them?

Wagons are easy. I have a dual cab and have NO IDEA here I can put mine.

What about under the back seats in the tool box with ply boxes around them to reduce any tinny noise. Maybe use marine speakers so you can still hose out the back floor.

Otherwise, you have a higher roof, so maybe an overhead console with some reading lights & speakers.

Or... what about head phone jacks with individual volume controls. Then add a carputer, and get wireless internet, so that each person can select their own station....

Marine speakers are expensive though, otherwise I'd reckon that would be a good location - toolbox is pretty hard to access and not good for much else !


Wjere in an overhead console did you envisage ?

I am going to do an overhead console but it will be the type that goes down the middle of the roof - i.e. between diver and passenger. I can't put speakers on the rear bulkhead anywhere coz it would interfere with headroom in rear seats.

Any other ideas / comments from the peanut gallery ?

I envisaged a central overhead console as you describe, with a couple of speakers recessed into it, facing down. Some of our new ambulances have what seems to be a universal type in moulded black plastic with 2 speakers and 2 reading lights, but I don't know who makes them.

I searched for universal overhead console on ebay and found this other design

for what it's worth I got my speakers for about $90. They are an indoor outdoor speaker with the ability to be used in your car or in your house (two different resistance settings built in) They came with all mounts and https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/im...10/04/1569.jpgwere easy to fit and sound pretty good, I'm no audiophile mind you. Sorry about the photo but the cargo barrier was in the way! I could only get 1 in shot.

I got a pair off ebay uk when I was that side of the pond. You can get ones that house 6x9 speakers and they take the place of the light housing surrounds and tuck in behind the window trim to look pretty much stock.

With the weak pound its a good time to order stuff from UK if your earning aussie dollars.

I like these and the position - out of the way of everything. I have the boom box type in the same position. The bloke who fitted them did a shiite of a job and they are too big. Where do I buy these?

I agree...I've been googling for these without success.

Lyle where are you when we need you? ;)

they are just outdoor speakers... can get them plenty of places... even ebay.

Bunnings have quite a decent range of outdoor speakers made by a company called 5th room. reasonable prices too.. we have a set of them running back outside.
