But even they say better for "occasional towing".
And IMHO this is really something that needs to be discussed. There are things that EV's are less than optimal for. Sure I get it. But there are also things that they are really really good at. We need to encourage people to weigh those things more carefully. I suspect the only way we are going to encourage them to do that is by penalising ICE ownership. Oh well.
IE maybe you do something that an EV just can't do. Sure that's a hard no. Sure no problems. But for a lot of people maybe they do something occasionally that an EV might be less than optimal for. Perhaps it's ok to acknowledge that an EV will be harder to use for that task, but to acknowledge that it will be far better for most everything else. Whereas now people are like "I might want to hook the caravan up and tow around the country, or go to fraser". But they don't have a caravan, and have never been to Fraser. And instead they are putting up with driving their dual cabs on the school run and into the local shopping centre car park. IMHO that is the majority of DC/SUV owners. Yes you can hire a car for fraser, and no you don't own a giant caravan... or even a towbar.
For example. A friend of mine recently bought a PHEV. I'm like "why not get a full EV?". She said her wife would not have it. Once or twice a year they visit family in Stanthorpe. So - That is easily possible to do with an EV. Maybe they might have to use a public fast charger in Stanthorpe (and there are several on the route) but that's the end of the inconvenience. So now they have to put up with an EV that uses nearly twice the power in EV mode as a proper EV. It needs an oil change or two a year and requires petrol and has a second petrol drive train that an EV doesn't have. It's heavier than an EV, and because it's got two drivetrains it has much less passenger space than the equivalent full EV.
I mean I don't mind but seems quite silly to me.
