I dunno if it is true, but i read that the actual exhaust emissions from a modern diesel vehicle, with Add Blue, has less particulates than the air going into the engine.
Modern diesel engines are indeed better than older ones. Particulate is supposed to be very low. However as we've learned from Dieselgate not all is as it seems. Even the latest and bestest diesel engines are allowed to deviate from the emissions protocol in certain scenarios.. warming up is one of them, and at other times when the manufacturer declares that running the protocol might result in engine damage.

But while that's important - the amount of co2 is not affected by polltion control. It's a straight equation. All engines since the beginning have been the same.

    • Diesel: ≈2.68kg CO2/L
      ≈2.68kgCO2/L
    • Petrol (Gasoline): ≈2.31kg CO2/L
      ≈2.31kgCO2/L
    • LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas): ≈1.51--1.6kg CO2/L
      ≈1.51--1.6kgCO2/L
The only way to not emit CO2 is to not burn things.

Anyway for the record I very much doubt the government will get any money from the NVES. The most likely outcome is they will get their act together and not have to pay it - or possibly buy credits from other manufacturers. I've no doubt they will be crying that they will have to pay it to try and get out of doing anything.

Don't bet on any fines being paid ever.

Look at Mazda. They were up the gun, and they've just announced they are now going to sell what looks like a decent EV for 50k. From what I understand it looks like they will sell well.

Topically, with the current fuel situation, I've seen idiots hoarding up to 1,000 litres of fuel. What is preferable, a thousand litres of petrol or an EV combusting under your house?
Don't these hoarding morons realise that should there be a fire, regardless of the cause, their insurance will drop them quicker than a hot potato?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
