They learned their lesson and no longer use the chip. Tesla reduced logging with an OTA update to prolong life of older MCUs.
I had an old MCU modified for root access. This takes remote control away from Tesla, you can switch off logging, access technician tools and modify/hack to your heart's content. It's a run of the mill Linux PC with a fancy GPU!
It was Phil who helped with the hack, over a year ago.
But still the older MCUs found in the S and X are not fit for purpose. The screen used is not automotive grade. The screen will delaminate and yellow in the sun!
No issues with newer MCUs or Model 3 as far as I'm aware.
