5 million quid Ian I still love my hydrogen and graphite play in Perth. I have given up on the hydrogen fuel cell for my boat or 4wd now. You can make almost anything. It is cost effective and efficient is a different mater perhaps.

Interesting aside on the hidden door handles and button style exit buttons in some new cars. Not just EVs. "Instead of a simple, familiar mechanical latch, it’s now common for a car’s exterior door handles to remain flush against the door until the car is unlocked, requiring an electric motor to open. On many vehicles, interior door handles have been replaced by buttons that also need electricity and motors to work. It’s innovation but with mixed results.
To make matters worse, these electronic handles may not work if the car loses power or after a crash. Manual emergency releases on the interior exist, but they may be difficult to find or operate—especially in the panic of an emergency situation."

Noting of course last week getting a man out of a car crash was challenging plus with old school handles as it was parked on its side with passage door up in the air. No animals or humans killed in that event happily

A German gentleman and his 2 kids burned to death in a Tesla last week because emergency services couldn't get them out after a crash. I'll keep my mechanically operated locks thanks.

While I agree, in this instance when you have first responders saying "We couldn't get the doors open because of the locking systems and they couldn't open them from the inside because they were incapacitated" you'd expect that if the car had normal mechanical locking systems they may have removed one or more of them before they burned to death.

Worst vehicular fire I have ever seen was a rolled over petrol tanker. Nobody was getting him out. But I have been involved in several car crashes and I have never seen a car catch fire afterwards except in the movies. Not saying it doesn’t happen but it’s quite uncommon. I have also been involved in getting people out of crashed vehicles. Including me. I have never been impeded by door locks that don’t function and glass I couldn’t break. I know that these issues don’t have to be limited to EVs, but it’s the most likely place to find them. It’s not the first time people have died from fire in a crashed Tesla. I suspect that a massive recall will be ordered, and lawsuits will be filed, especially in the litigious US.
I don’t care what anyone else drives, but I definitely don’t want to be first on the scene of a Tesla crash. I have enough nightmares thanks.

Not a fire and many moons ago..............

A guy in a beemer got caught in a flash flood under the Dudley St bridge (Tins would know this well, but more for the clearance).

Couldn't open the locked doors, couldn't wind down the electric windows.

The only thing that saved him was someone smashing the sunroof.

He got rid of the car shortly after.
