    Wave Generator



    Down at Port Kembla is the interesting Wave Generator
    producing 286 kw
    capacity to power 500 homes
    capable to put 500kw back into grid
    small desaination plant capable to produce up to 2000 litres a day
    cost 10c per kw and $1 to produce 1000 litres of fresh water

    Interesting. That the wave pushes air to spin the turbine
    and creates a vacuum, when the wave pases, still spinning the turbine
    in the same direction till the next wave starts the cycle again.

    Hi groucho, Im a "local" who works in visual distance off the generator and heard a rumor that they where going to hook it up to the grid but that has now fallen through. Do you know anymore?

    Hi Frantic. I would say that is true. I go past it every day and there is all the cable work there. They even had a diesel generstor powering the thing for some reason. I only got the info from the fellows who run it, as i stopped to ask. I think they had trouble getting acsess through PKCT property to run the cable to the sub station or something like that. I don't think it will be
    ever be hooked up to the grid. Good in theory though. Could be wrong though.......
