Those things are ugly with a capital UGLY, and just speak to me of everything that is wrong with the American car industry.

Sorry, that means not to my taste.

    Yes Pedro.
They also have GM type utes as well.
They sell very well, as next door is the 5th wheel caravan place, forget the names.

Go live in one of the snow states for a winter or two and you will see why Yanks buy them. High ground clearance gets you through many snowfalls that low slung passenger cars simply can not be driven in. Plenty of space and sheet metal around you for sliding into snow banks. Superb tow vehicles also. Last year I did a lot of miles in a friend's Chev Suburban, Allison auto and 500 cubic inch big block, used to tow an enclosed trailer with two historic race cars and all their accoutrements. It tows easily at 70+ mph on the interstates. Fuel cost is not a worry to a rich man.

The F series back in the 70's and 80's were great vehicles in the 4WD versions. I would have loved to own one at the time but could not afford it. A mate of mine had a "78 F100 4WD (Louisville style) 351 V8 manual which was virtually unstoppable. The only drawback was the wide track - all the bush tracks were made by Landrovers or Toyotas and the F100 was always too wide in the track, kept wiping out the mirror on one side.

Dodge used to make a 4WD pickup called the Power Giant with the 440 V8 and full time 4WD using Chrysler's own system. These were absolutely awesome performers with enough power to push up a giant bow wave halfway up the windscreen on deep water crossings. Then came regulation and the Corporate Average Fuel Economy rules. Bye bye to the big power units.
