Hi,

After replacing the throw out bearing as part of my clutch replacement the noise is still there....the spigot had a lot of play so I assume bearings are on the way out (or totally dissolved) - I have a 4.4 leyland engine to put into the car and I don't think the Santana will be up to the additional power output.
Wanting to stay with a 5 speed box is the R380 a straight swap over...same mounts, bellhousing and are the outputs in the same location. What revs do these gearboxes sit on at highway speeds and is there anything else I need to look at??
Would anyone be able to suggest a better option??

Thanks in advance
Rokkitt

Bellhousing is different.. highway speeds depends on what your TC is. In general, the R380 is a little taller.

IMO the R380 is superior in every way to the LT85.

Get a later one, they are stronger (suffix J onwards).

if you decide to upgrade to R380 and want to part with the LT85 I'll offer you something for the LT85 bellhousing for a project I have in mind:cool:

The LT85 won't be out for a month or three, need to get the new motor and gearbiox hooked up and ready to drop in first, but as soon as it is done I will give you a shout...:) Any idea what a good R380 would be worth??

Do I need to get a different bellhousing even if I use an R380 from a V8 disco?? is this an adapter plate and where would you suggest I get one??

Gear shift is in a different location on Disco boxes.

AFAIK an R380 from a V8 disco will have a suitable input shaft and bellhousing will be ok - but wrong gearshift to fit in a 110.

AFAIK Australia didn't get V8 Defenders with an R380, so bellhousing and input shaft won't suit the V8.

flagg's post about Suffix J could be misunderstood. Suffix J were 1st and weakest, you should get later suffix i.e. K or L - more info here on Ashcroft web page (http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/part_2.html#pa1) - you may have to click on technical information to see the full info.
