Hello All,
Funny thing on the weekend up at Barrington tops, Went to turn a LH corner and heard a extreamly loud bang, :(when finding a park to start drinking for the night
Found out that the problem is the LHR Axle teeth have stripped off and no drive from the rear now. Drove home in Front WD (like a big Corolla):)
Does anyone know How common this is?
Any Advice for up grades on axles as it is all 10 year old now (2000 Model TD5)
Regards

Is it a Salisbury axle or Rover? This half shaft is the weak link in 110 Salisbury. Rovers diffs have a chain of weak points
Are the centre splines damaged? Are the splines worn on the other hub side - high wear item characterised by clunks when changing gear - could also be ball joint. If splines are worn on both axles then replace both axles and drive flanges , or if you are upgrading
Plenty of options for upgrades try Local Makers: MR Automotive Qld, Jac Macnamara Differentials Melbourne, O.S: RoverTracks U.S. , Ashcroft distributed by Les Richmond maybe others or direct from U.K.
Cheapest option by far would be to replace with another stock axle. Probably sold as full diff. Check markets section.

Yeah, I would also say that it has been damaged previously and it just happened to have let go at that point.

Hi Dutchie, Jock the Rock's current thread in this section has some points for discussion on this topic. Cheers, 130man.

Hello Stig0000
No Locker, but as Slunie stated, I think it was damged and has now chosen to break, the end of the axle (feed into the flange cap outer) is nice and smooth. The previous owner caused some damage in the Gear box so the rest of the drive train is probly a bit unhealthy

Hello Clive22,
It is a Salisbury in the rear, with lots of clunks when changing gears.
I was told that the clunk changing gears was Diff back lash.
Did find a gent on Ebay (also it is mentioned on the fourm) has rear Axles and Drive flanges for $200, Is that about right price for std equipment?
Cheers
