Hi All

Just running in a rebuilt 2.25l petrol motor. I have noticed a very slight rumble or backfire when slowing down. eg. at traffic lights.
Is this normal or something to be concerned about. I have set the timing and spark as per the land rover service manual, also fitted a new distributor.
Motor starts, runs and idles well, buts rumbles when slowing down.

Needing help.

Hi Mike,

I have a fresh (~7000km) 2.25 as well in a SWB 2a. I have noticed mine doing this as well, It's a bit of a cackle from the exhaust when under compression braking. Is this the same as yours?

AFAIK there is nothing wrong with it, personally I love the sound and regularly hang my head out the window to hear it!

G'day Folks :)

Nothing wrong with it :) just a nice healthy motor that is running nice and lean :D which means the carby is OK :)

Sounds even better with a 2" (50mm) system and a 12inch freeflow muffler,bellows like a bull on a long uphill pull :D

cheers

Mine did this until I had some holes in the exhaust welded up. probably still does it but i can't hear it now.
