Stig, what are your thoughts on the standard "diff lock" in the Defender. I haven't really had reason to use mine yet. I assume that it's a bit dissappointing if you are moving to the ARB locker?

If you can stretch it to getting a front locker as well, I think ARB are running a promo where u get the compressor (full one not the locker only crap) and a tyre inlfation kit and some other stuff. makes the price seem pretty worthwhile.
I'm tempted too:D

HUE166, i guess your talking about the high/low leaver difflock??,,, thats only center difflock, lock both front axle to rear, it doesn't stop slip in the diff side to side,

so the back axle now, if i lift a wheel no matter what, i will still have 100% drive to both wheels, but if you lift a wheel with no locker that wheel will just spin and no power to opposite wheel,

so no matter what i will allways have at least 3 wheeldrive, with just standed CLD you can only have 2 driving wheels at times

i think it of electricity, path of least resistance

arb dont do that deal anymore, i wish they did, but i allso wish i could stretch it to a front aswell, but il just get a good lsd in the next cople of months:D

There's weeds shopwing off that he has two lockers again.

Hey guys!,
Yeah Stig you should post so piccies of when the locker would be used ( hint hint glass house...)
I also jumped on the ARB locker band wagon, with big credits going to STIG for getting a good deal!!! cheers mate.
An air locker just allows also less wheel spin ( yep less enviromental damage) when driving off road, especially on cars without traction control.
p.s. the p38 has a factory fitted air comp hahahaha .....

Agreed with Vlad...ARB air compressor under drivers seat is very loud...but seems to be the best location for it. I was thinking of lining the inside of the box with some sound proofing.

Apparently you can get a breather extention for it? But ARB know nothing about it. The instructions talk about an extension???

ARB want about $180 for the compressor (just the locker compressor), but check ebay. I picked up mine for $120 brand new..

A normal compressor is fine...id recommend getting a small air tank too so your compressor isnt starting and stopping every few minutes.

I thought going down the locker path ultimately led to replacing half shafts - is it not so...? Are the new Puma drivelines any more robust?
Also I hear from OL that there is a new electrically engaging difflock system coming which they believe will blow the ARB lockers away - with no need for air engagement.
Anyone heard anything? Apparently it is to be reviewed in one of the offroad mags soon.

iv considered every option, lsd, auto unlocker, trutrack, detroit, e locker, kams locker, and air,

why did i go air locker,

i wanted to have full 100% drive at the rear , but i also wanted to be able to select when i wanted the locker in, so that ruled out LSDs and unlockers/trutracks,

so it was either prolocker/ airlocker , e locker/kams, or maxi:angel:(i wish)

prolocker, are more expensive then arb and plus i was told there not realy made for landrovers,

maxi drive, all for landrover and are bullet proof but the most expensive of the lot, and very hard to come buy,

air locker, i had it with in a day and at a good discount, also very good warranty and very strong for what im doing, plus every one i no with a ARB are extremely happy, and its made in AUS,

Its called the Eaton E-Locker. There is a test of it and comparo with ARB, TJM, Detroit and Lokka in Australian 4WD Action issue 148. All faired pretty well with the Lokka the best budget and Detroit best overall for rear location. My favourite is the Detroit, because I have one. General conclusion - No worries, no fuss Detroit Locker in the rear with a manual locker (TJM, ARB or E-Locker) in the front. Detroit recommend their LSD soft locker for the front, but was this was not tested. When I bought my Detroit (about a year ago) neither TJM or Lokka made units for Landrovers.

I tend to think the opposite. A lot of damage I've seen to axles is through the wheel spinning and then gripping suddenly.
This tends to break axles pretty quickly.
Whereas with a locker the wheel that's in the air spins at the same speed as the one that's on the ground - so when it comes back down to ground there is no sudden 'shock' load through the axles. Couple this with your driving style changing with lockers - you tend to tackle obstacles a lot slower - I find that lockers look after axles better than not having them.
Cheers

im stilll not 100% with the switches been there but well see how they go
