Uploading/resizing scanned files

I was going to PM a Mod, but thought I'd put it out to everyone.

I've scanned some pages from an old Maxi Drive catalogue that lists a heap of LT230 t/case data and initially saved them as bitmaps.
I've also saved them as JPEG's but either form is frigging huge.

I'm a bit of a numpty with this computer stuff (sorry to The Numpties :angel:) and don't posses a PDF converter, (I'm pretty sure, although I might have an old version of Solid Works here somewhere) so what's the easiest way to convert them to a reasonable size so i can upload them as a reference ?

The link above should do it...says it does convert open office to pdf...

CutePDFwriter is another solution. It does not require you upload large files to a web page. CutePDF (http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp) But note, you will need to install the Ghostscript converter first as detailed on the CutePDF web page.

However, if you can scan and save them to Jpeg format at the moment then why don't you just scan and save them to Jpeg using a higher compression rate if you want the file size to be smaller.

PDF Creator is another one. I would say it should be OK with Open Office but have not tried it.

Open Office converts to PDF perfectly for me.

File/Export as PDF...

I have PDF Creator here at home and CutePDF at work. By far, CutePDF is far easier as it comes up as a printer and you just save it all within the bounds of a normal filesave in windows.

PDF Creator requires more input for the same result and takes a lot longer to complete.

as mentioned open offic has great export to pdf function, but jpgs would also be ok if that is too much work.

they will not be too big if you resize them. what they will have been scanned in at wil be overkill.

just zoom all the way out till all bits are still readable in size. then resize to that percentage.

Use PDF Creator at home in Office 2007 and at work in Office 2003 and in both it comes up as a printer.

I'm on dial up too, which doesn't help.
I've already re-sized the pics with Irfanview without losing any legibility so far, will have a crack at going further tonight.

Opened the JPEG's in OO Writer and exported as PDF's then uploaded to the files section. :D
