Doing a head replacement on Mums car( not Landy) but thought I'd share some pics of an easy clean.
Sorry I didn't take the before pics of the oil stain gum on the inside, but if you have a look at the 1st of the pics there are a couple of black stains left.

It took about an hour. I later did the valve springs, hydrauilc lifters. Everything was covered in brown gum
the wonder drug was. 50% Chemtech 14 degreaser and 50 % Turps in a spray bottle. sprayed on let it sit for a couple of mins then used an old tooth brush and gave it a quick brushing, the stuff just started falling off, and not being corrosive like some degreasers it works a treat on alloy.
I was pretty impressed so thought I'd show it here. when it was finished I then soaked it quickly in a 1 part to 100 parts water and hosed off.

thats a lot of effort for what can be acomplished in a dishwasher with just a few button presses....

Yep I'm with Blknight.....I've restored a few old motorbikes and the dishwasher will degrease steel and alloy bits a treat. The trick is to run a 'heavy' wash so the rinse cycle is longer than normal for the alloy bits.

Once done, I run the dishwasher empty with 1 of the cleaning packs and it's right as rain - and just as clean with no smell or residual grunge! :D:o

I can just imagine what my dishwasher would say if I told her to degrease a cylinder head! :p:bangin::bangin:

But you have to have a bloody big dishwasher if you wanted to degrease an engine whilst it's insitu:D

Yep you're dead right as it is very caustic......that's why it's best to select the heavy duty option so the longer rinse cycle flushes it nice and squeaky clean. (I usually give the alloy a liberal spray with Inox after to stop any further corrosion affects ;))

BTW - I only do this when SHMBO is out of the house and leave the dishwasher exactly as I found it :D:D

biggest problem getting caught is that they will figure out we know how to use dishwashers:)

:angel::angel::angel:And where does all this petroleum based greasy water go from the dishwasher? Straight down the sewer mains ( not legal)

But then again, How do you dispose of greasy water???

Same place as the greasy frypan oil after you've been cooking bacon. Trade waste goes down the sewer (licensed of course) so environmentally, a little engine residue is not a problem.
