Brindabella trip

I took the fl2 down through the Brindabellas (Canberra) last Sunday. What a great trip. Went all the way to the top of Mt Coree and to the bottom of Flea Creek. If you want to give the fl2 a good test without risking panel damage then this trip has a lot to offer. Stunning views, steep, steep tracks and good rest stops. Be wary of really wet weather though as it could get impossible to get out from Flea Creek in extreme conditions. I heard on another forum that it wasn't for softies so I had to try it.....no problems the fl2 crawls with the best of them. Mike

My FL1 has no trouble any where on the main tracks in the Brindabella NP wet or dry as long as you are prepared to use a few revs. It is a good run for our softroaders.

The last time I went up to Mt Coree I was in my 101 and chugging up there in 4th low range and just to remind us that it is more driver than vehicle in offroading, there as a Mazda 626 Station Wagon parked at the last corner from the top.

I went down the roller coaster like Gentle Annie (is that it's name?) trail to the Flea Creek camp ground then climbed all the way up Webs Ridge trail. They were as steep as I've come across anywhere and a little slippery after rain as well. No way the Mazda could have done those. Going on what I've seen elsewhere, a manual Disco2 would probably need low range to comfortably handle the climb out because I've seen them have to go low on easier slopes. Anyway, full marks to the fl2 terrain response dial because it never struggled just kept boring away at it. As I said, a good test without risking panel damage and great scenery. Mike

It is snowing heavily up there at the moment - Mt Corree and the Brindies are all completely snow covered. I am tempted to go for a drive up there but it is too cold.

Interestingly I have never had the Freelander bogged but manage to do it in the 101 all the time.

soft suspension + soft tyres = traction.

I am sure you will have a great time, just make sure that the heater is working as it is 'quite' cold outside at present.
