well i just removed my old one....now i always thought it was heavy duty but

at this stage i have only weighed the rack, keep in mind when i brought the truck i removed some weight, maybe 10kg

105kg for the rack alone, it was a four man lift to get it off, my new roof rack is maybe 30kg which means i have a 75kg gain

umm, i have loaded the following for extended touring on the old rack

12kg solar panel - on all the time
5kg awning - on all the time
35kg second spare
60kg+ 3 x jerry cans
?? 3 x swags
6kg 2 x gas cylinders

no wonder the pillars used to sound like they were straining under the load approx. 220kg  at least i will be down around 150kg for my next trip

Puma limit is 150 kg. Checked into that before purchasing everything I now have on the roof.

Where did that figure come from kenleyfred??? All the figures in the brochures and owners manual for the 2007+ defender 110 and 130 say 75kg including the rack.

Cheers,

Cheers,

The Owners Handbook I got got with my 2010 Defender says 150 kg. The Handbook is dated 2007.

You can find the Handbook here: TOPIx - TOPIx (http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/content/document/view?id=65727) The relevant section is "Load Carrying".

Just had a look Karl, you're right, 150kg. I wonder if the limit changes depending on location??

Hi,

150kg in my manual.

8<------------------------------------------------------------

"Driving off-road with a loaded roof rack is not recommended"

8<------------------------------------------------------------

I would halve the 150kg for my single cab chassis.

cheers

IIRC 110's and Puma's have 150kg, and Tdi / Td5 have 75kg... but there was some differences between years and markets.

That said, I don't remember who told me that

well google was fun....

take your pick of

150KG total
100KG total
75 KG total
100 KG on the roof rack
75KG on the roof rack
54.8kg on the roof rack and that was from the landrover uk websites official listing for a rack.

no indication as to if thats a static or dynamic roof load limit, one would hope dynamic.

75kg is the standard style rack, with an expedition rack (to use the OEM term) you can go to 150kg.

The difference is in the load distribution of the racks due to the number of feet/mounting points around the roof.

Or it could be the OEM expedition rack weighs 75kg more :wasntme:

After having a yak with the WeedMeister this arvo - the point is, his Deefer has been carrying a whole lot more up top than any handbook says it should. ;)

My 2007 manual states 75kg too. Still - old fat arse (me) has been up there for a few beers atop Mount Beadell so I guess mine has too and there goes my max load rating! :D

Excellent racks. Very strong but light. I have a 1.4 m on my D90 and it only weighs 16 kg. I got the higher brackets and the stainless table that sits underneath. Plus the rear ladder.

There may be a published load rating - but given that the front roof turrets are attached to the roof with a couple of self tappers, and pretty much it's own roof weight is enough to pull out the spot welds that hold the brackets in place. You might want to consider installing some sort of roll cage or at least a cargo barrier..... Just drive along a undulating road with your hand where the A pillars meet the roof and if it moves, you've probably pulled out the self tappers or the spot welds...
